My New Release
It’s been a busy and eventful writing week. In a good way.
Good news:
I’ve committed to writing the new story I started, and am (hand)writing pages without effort. I have a good idea where I want to take the story, but as always, I’ll see where the characters want to go.
It started out as a YA novel (not intentionally, since I was pantsing. It felt like a YA book). The more I got into the story, the more it felt as if it should be a romance novel. So, I’m going on the assumption my characters are adults. It’s early enough in the story that the change doesn’t disrupt a lot. The story itself is one of vengeance and self-discovery, with a large dose of adventure and a sprinkling of fantasy. It’s character driven, however.
At least, that’s what it feels like now.
I’m compiling almost as many pages of questions as actual words. This tells me, instinctually, that I’ll be able to fill holes and if I’m asking, readers will also ask questions, and will be engaged.
Bad news:
I wanted to write something humorous this time ‘round. This isn’t that. It’s not a dark story, but it’s gotten dark fast. My protagonist has had his first encounter with his adversary (in the 3rd chapter) and had his ass handed to him on a prophecy. The prophecy feels like this should be an “epic” story.
Good news:
I think I can pull this off, because what I’m writing is fun.
Bad news:
I’m pantsing. That means I’ll have at least a year of edits/rewrites with which to deal. I also need to rename my main character/protagonist. His name is currently Ive, but I keep writing “I’ve”. He feels like an Ive, but it’s confusing for me, and therefore, the reader.
Good news:
My noir, Last Call, will see the light of day on October 6, 2021, ePubs are available from BookBaby, Amazon and Apple Books. I hope to have copies available at Creatures, Crime, and Creativity #mdc3con. I’ve tweaked my website a bit https://auteureist.com Here's a preview of the cover of Last Call.
Bad news:
I have to clean the garage now.
